MoodFolio is a private journaling app operated by Moodfolio ("Moodfolio", "we", "us"), trading as MoodFolio. For the personal data described on this page, Moodfolio is the data controller. This page explains what we collect, why, and the controls you have over your data. MoodFolio is not a medical device, therapist, or crisis service; if you are in crisis, see the resources at the bottom of this page or on our support page.
What we collect
Account info: your email address (and a display name if you set one).
Journal entries: the text you write, the mood rating you choose, and timestamps.
Onboarding answers: the short intake responses you give when you start.
Device tokens if you opt in to push notifications, so we can send reminders.
Basic analytics (PostHog) on app usage — never your journal contents.
How we use it
To show you your own entries and mood history.
To generate AI responses to your journal entries (sent securely to our AI provider).
To send the daily reminder if you opt in.
To improve the product in aggregate. We do not sell your data.
Legal basis (EEA / UK)
Under the GDPR/UK GDPR, we rely on performance of a contract to store the entries you write (we can't provide a journaling service without them), consent for optional features like push notifications and product analytics, and our legitimate interests in keeping the Service secure and operational. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Subprocessors
We use a small number of vendors strictly to run the Service. They are contractually bound to protect your data. Journal contents are only ever sent to the AI provider below (to generate replies) and to our hosting provider (to store them for you).
MoodFolio is operated from, and hosts most infrastructure in, the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S. (including the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S. Where required, we and our subprocessors rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum as the safeguard for those transfers.
Your controls & rights
Export a copy of your data as JSON from Settings → Your data.
Edit your intake any time from the header → "Edit intake".
Delete an entry from the History page.
Delete your account: Settings → Danger zone. This permanently removes your profile, entries, intake answers, AI response memory, attachments, and device tokens.
GDPR / CCPA rights: to access, correct, port, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, email privacy@moodfolio.net. We respond within 30 days.
Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, entries, attachments, intake answers, AI response memory, and device tokens are removed within a few seconds. Aggregated, non-identifying usage counts may be retained. Email deliverability logs (bounce / unsubscribe records) are kept for anti-abuse and legal reasons.
Children
MoodFolio is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the required age of digital consent in their country (13 in the U.S. under COPPA; 16 or the local minimum in the EEA/UK). If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
